Mar Behnan lived in modern day Iraq in fourth century AD. He was the son of an Assyrian King. One day while hunting he met Mor Mattai.
Later he became the disciple of Mor Mathai and became a
believer of Lord Jesus Christ. He also took his sister Princess Sara who suffered
from sickness and diseases (leprosy) to Mor Mattai. She was miraculously cured
of illness. Following to this, his sister Sara and his forty companions
eventually accepted Christian belief.
The King got agitated by the news of conversion and sends
his army to persuade the Prince and his companions to reconvert. But Behnam
declined and King ordered for the execution of Behnam, Sara and other forty
companions of Behnam.
Many years later the truth was revealed to King as well. The
King also got baptized by Mor Mattai. King erected a monument for the martyr’s at
mount where his daughter got healed. This monument is believed have evolved as Mor
Behnam Monastery.
